Conclusion of the Third Edition of the short-film competition “My Heritage” in Aseer, Saudi Arabia

In the Aseer region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the presence of the winners, the final phase of the third edition of the “My Heritage” short-film competition concluded. After months of anticipation, the winners were announced and celebrated in a closing ceremony from 24 to 31 October 2024. The ceremony, attended by local officials, heritage professionals, the general public and the winning films were showcased that emphasized the significance of cultural heritage preservation and the importance of storytelling in this context.

The competition was an initiative by the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), aimed at inspiring youth and professionals to showcase the cultural and historical heritage of the Arab region. The winning films offered unique narratives that captured the beauty and diversity of regional heritage through visual storytelling, bringing to light aspects of tradition, history, and identity essential to the Arab cultural landscape.

Throughout the competition, the participants created films that reflected the richness of Arab heritage, each telling a different story about our past, present, and future. The selected films are part of ARC-WH’s larger commitment to fostering a deeper connection to heritage among the region’s younger generations and raising awareness of the importance of heritage preservation.

In his remarks at the event, the Deputy Director of ARC-WH emphasized the importance of supporting and nurturing such creative initiatives. He stated that projects like “My Heritage” are crucial in preserving and promoting Arab heritage. Through the competition, ARC-WH aims to inspire an appreciation for cultural storytelling, encouraging future generations to engage actively in heritage conservation.

The event also included discussions and workshops that allowed participants to learn about various aspects of filmmaking, heritage interpretation, and preservation techniques. These sessions were led by heritage and visual storytelling experts, providing valuable insights into best practices and encouraging participants to continue their engagement with cultural preservation.
