On Wednesday, 3 July 2024, the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage (ARC-WH) organized the preliminary online meeting for participants in the third edition of the short film competition “My Heritage”. The competition is jointly organized by the Heritage Commission of the Kingdom of Arabia, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair for World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Management in the Arab Region, and with the support of Hayy Jameel to provide training workshops to the participants.
During the meeting, the attendees were introduced to the competition and its conditions, as well as reviewed previous editions and their results. This year’s competition sheds light on traditional crafts around World Heritage sites and their relationship with surrounding communities.
The “My Heritage” competition aims to raise the awareness of Arab youth about cultural and natural heritage by producing short films that shed light on the cultural and natural heritage in their local surroundings. It also aims to enhance the skills of young people in film production and develop visual content that reflects the richness and diversity of Arab heritage. Through this initiative, ARC-WH, in collaboration with its regional partners, seeks to highlight the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage and passing it on to future generations.
This meeting will be followed by an online training workshop in August and a training workshop in October. Winners will be on a trip to Asir, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where they will have unique opportunities and expertise in filmmaking.
